Google Search Engine Optimisation Tips: Getting a Good Good Ranking
Below are a few tips that should help you with optimizing your web site so it gets a good search engine ranking with Google:
File and Domain Naming Tips
- Include the keyword in your page uRL
First word is best, second is second best, etc.
- Include the keyword in the domain name your purchase.
Header Tips
- Include your keyword in the title tag
Use keyword in your itle tag, close to beginning. Make your title tag between 10-60 with no special characters.
- Inlude the keyword in description meta tag
Try to include every word in the tag somewhere in the body text. No single word should appear more than twice.
- Include the keywords in the body text
- Include the keyword in H1, H2 and H3 tags.
Also consider using the keyword in bold, strong, italic fonts.
- Include the multiple keywords you want to be identified for in the body text close together. Also include the important keywords at the beginning of your page.
- Keyword in alt text for images
- Include the keyword in links to site pages
- Ensure links on all pages on the site are valid, not broken.
- Make your web site links efficient, ensure that it is a flat tree structure with easy access to pages rather than a deep one.
- Try to keep your page file sizes low, definitely under 100k and preferably below 40k
- Keep links stability over time. However ensure frequent page updates to encourage frequent spidering of your site
- Avoid using querystrings to link to page which derive their data from the database.
Include as many pages of content on your site as possible. Generate a page a day of articles. Google likes big sites.
Having said all the above remember to avoid spamming - ie duplicating keywords, including keywords in ridiculous amounts.
